  • Theory of Constraints (TOC)
    • non-credit, up to 40, Please RSVP No Charge
Intuitively, every manager knows that their organization is a chain of dependent resources, functions and people. Organizations and management teams, however, have a basic tendency to define problems, construct solutions, and implement initiatives in isolation of each other. At any one time, there is often a long list of on-going initiatives within different areas of a company consuming large amounts of resources, with little or no idea how the "defined" problems fit together, how the "solutions" impact each other, or the net effect to the entire organization. This presentation will show how the Theory of Constraints (TOC) allows companies to effectively maximize the Return on Investment (ROI) equation by creating solutions that utilize a system's performance by identifying, exploiting, and synchronizing around critical leverage points. PLEASE RSVP.

Professional Engineer

  • Process and Instrumentation Design ( P&ID)
    • 5 hr, Professional Development
      $125
At the start of many projects emphasis is placed on P&IDs (is it process or piping?)  Most engineering disciplines come across P&IDs at some point.  Even surveyors will hear the project engineer complaining about the P&IDs being late and wonder why this happens!  What is a P&ID?  What can it do for you?  Why do you need one?  What can you do with a P&ID?  What does it tell you?  What does it not tell you?  If you received P&IDs when your plant was constructed, why should you keep them up to date?  Find out how to draw a P&ID and how it could help you in your job and in the basement of your house.

    • 5 hr, Professional Development
      $125
There have been continual developments in storm water collection systems since passage of the Clean Water Act in 1972.  More stringent regulations on sediment loading of discharge water make collection systems important to both water/waste water operations.  The different approaches and the types of storm water systems will be discussed.  Engineering principles used in the understanding of the systems dynamics will be reviewed.  Other topics covered will be types of control structures and methods, EPA regulations regarding storm water, useful process measurements, instrumentation, methods to get data from field, flow and storage, and use of controllers and computers.  An example of what a major Ohio city has done and how its system operates will be presented.
